Jazz Fiddler on the Roof
Mark Kramer Trio
This is a highly melodic and emotional rendition of this groundbreaking Broadway show and film. Gorgeously recorded. Eddie Gomez has considered this production to be at the very top of his massive recorded jazz output. Likewise, the show's original composer Jerry Bock extolled the work and became our fan - attending our many NYC trio performances.
Some find that the work may stay too close to the melody to warrant it being designated as ultra-hip. Yet, there has arguably never been a recording in which the beauty of the bowed and plucked jazz bass has been so richly featured and developed. Additionally, the work pulls off the illusion of simplicity, when in reality the improvisations, interplay, and harmonic reworkings of the piano with bass are advanced.
A set of LEAD sheets which contain the unusual arrangements and reharmonizations of most of the selections are available in the STORE. These will prove invaluable to gigging musicians, jazz students, hobbyist and ensemble directors/educators.
